Freedom, is the freedom to opt out of society.

Ok your turn, I like this game.

Excellent. I will repeat my favorite definition by George Orwell: Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear. There is the related quote: If liberty* means anything at all it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.

*The definition of “liberty” has a different slant that that of “freedom” being more about legality and status than action. From the Concise Oxford English Dictionary: 1) The state of being free from oppression or imprisonment. 2) A right or freedom, especially a statutory one. 3) The power or scope to act as one pleases.

“I am free to speak” is different than “I am at liberty to speak.”

I have to say that too many people seem to feel that freedom is the ability to avoid, instead of being able to do. Freedom from responsibility instead of the freedom to act, think, or believe as you think best or just want.

Looking at the past, people were usually not interested in escaping from responsibility as much as choosing what to be responsible for.

Being able to be responsible for this job or faith or duty or even family. How often do we see people demanding the denial of responsibility to anything including respecting the welfare of others, or how their actions impact on others, as their right to be free?

Perhaps the reason I want to opt out of society is it is full of dullard blob untermenschs oh critical one? Did you ever think to stop and ask first before ranting?

Heck yes, I can understand why an individual might be disgusted enough to want to leave society. It is so easy to see the nauseating thoughtlessness that is being praised as wisdom. Leftist

And my apologies, my earlier comment was meant as an observation of what is becoming the general American idea of freedom as freedom from responsibility, not as an attack on you. Writing clearly is something that I need to do better.

No worries I thought it was a response to what I said, if not apologies. I do live as a hermit in a wilderness area, so it's personal to me.
